Just saw the posting on PTCB website ' Eligibility of High Student within 60 days of graduation.'
This is how the PTCB has become so low in the profession of pharmacy technician that, they are asking un-graduated students from high school to take the board certification exams.
Where is the new policy that was voted stating that as from 2020 anyone applying for board should be a college graduate from an approved program. It the board going backward or forward? When will the technicians ever get the recognition and be respected at work place when the board can not even make a distinction between those with associate degree from those with a high school diploma. This new policy only weaken the profession and makes it so cheap and unsafe for the patient.
Medication errors and safety issue will continue to be on the rise as long as the board continue to let untrained people get certified. Anyone from the street can write any board exams and passed but does that mean they know the subject matter?
I think pharmacists need to stand up and stop all these random policies by the technician board.
If pharmacists are pushing more responsibilities to technicians, then they should be advocating for more training and any technician should at least have a minimum of associate degree in pharmacology or related study from college before qualifying to seek for the board exams.

I retired five years ago after 24 years as a Pharmacist in Arizona. I have been travelling the country and now have settled down in Northern California. I decided to go back to work and got my license as a Pharmacy Technician with the State of California. I also studied for and passed the PTCB exam with a score of 1581 and am now a CPhT as well. I have applied for many (over a dozen) Pharmacy Tech openings but have yet to even get a phone call for an interview. My first thought is that I am too old or over qualified. My second thought is that California does not require their Pharmacy Technicians to be certified. You can complete a Pharmacy Technician course and fail the PTCB exam and still get a job as a Pharmacy Tech. Also, there is no CE requirement for Pharmacy Techs. ... See MoreSee Less
